APPLICATION & AUDITION INFORMATION

Entry into the full-time or part-time courses is by audition in person. Selection is made on ability, physical facility and the potential for pursuing a career in musical theatre or dance. Applicants are advised to submit their applications ASAP, due to limited places available in each course.

AUDITIONS for Interstate or NZ applicants

Interstate or NZ applicants may submit a digital audition file through YouTube or Vimeo.

  • Once received, the Administrator will notify you of the audition details.

PRE-REQUISITES

  • Diploma course applicants must demonstrate Certificate IV level or equivalent in singing and/or basic dance experience.
  • Foundation course applicants must demonstrate Certificate III level or equivalent in singing and/or basic dance experience
  • Acting training and a higher level of dance training are advantageous, but not essential. Generally, applicants wishing to gain entry into Diploma of Musical Theatre will be 18 years of age or above. Foundation course minimum age requirement is 16, at commencement of the course.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS (MUSICAL THEATRE)

SONGS
Applicants will be required to sing two contrasting songs from the Musical Theatre repertoire, from memory. At least one of the songs selected must have been written prior to the 1980s. Max duration: 2 minutes per song. A pianist will be available, however, applicants may bring their own accompanist. No backing tracks, tapes or CDs. Sheet music in the correct key will be required. Applicants may or may not be required to sing the entire song. The audition panel may request applicants demonstrate scales / vocal exercises.

MONOLOGUE
Prepare and present from memory one contemporary, scripted, theatrical monologue (of your own choice). Max duration: 2 minutes.

DANCE
All applicants must demonstrate basic dance coordination skills. For the purpose of establishing full movement experience and potential, applicants may be required to attend a dance audition later in the day, after the initial audition.

INTERVIEW
All auditions are conducted privately and assessed by an audition panel. Interviews are conducted immediately after the presentation of songs, monologue and dance.

WHAT TO BRING OR WEAR:
Wear neat casual attire, and bring comfortable dance gear for dance audition. No baggy clothing, please.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION

Students residing in country Victoria, interstate overseas or are unable to attend a live audition, may submit a recorded presentation of the songs and acting requirements noted above. Submissions can be made by uploading recorded files dropbox.com or sending links from Vimeo or YouTube. The dance component is OPTIONAL ONLY for the first round of auditions. Should the applicant progress to the next stage, we will contact the applicant direct to discuss the dance requirement.
